Welcome to Boomanulla Oval the Aboriginal Corporation for Sporting and Recreational Activities website.

 

OBJECTIVE

Aboriginal Corporation for Sporting and Recreational Activities strives to ensure a resourced facility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to achieve equitable status as those provided to mainstream sporting and recreational organisations including those for elite athletes.

  • Meet the needs of our community

  • Provide access to sporting, recreational and cultural activities.

  • Increase awareness and participation rates in organised events.

  • Provide co-ordinated approach in sports and recreational activities.

  • Provide appropriate support mechanism for talented sportspeople.

  • Establish a process to access high standard mainstream facilities.

  • Negotiate opportunities for sports scholarships with relevant bodies for talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sports persons.

  • Provide activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with disabilities and Elders.

  • Improve organisational capacity to facilitate additional programs and services.

  • Provide ongoing support for activities that have cultural significance

The Aboriginal Corporation for Sport and Recreational Activities focuses on the promotional and development and the provision of Sporting facilities and activities for Indigenous sports people, in our community. Strategies employed are the development and delivery of sporting recreational and cultural friendly activities. These are a major focus and a high priority to the work of the Aboriginal Corporation for Sport & Recreational Activities and its staff at Boomanulla Oval.

 

The Administration arm of the Aboriginal Corporation for Sport and Recreational Activities facilitates the development and planning and delivery of programs and services, which promotes the identity of Indigenous Australians. Management identifies its role is not only dedication to practical sporting activities, but to put in place strategies to integrate members of the wider community to participate in the activities which are devised to incorporate and demonstrate indigenous culture. 

 

Promotional aspects include reconciliation and education of Indigenous culture at sporting events. Providing Fun Days where the wider community is encouraged to take part example social events, NAIDOC Week activities, Indigenous sporting events, Little Athletics and Junior Rugby League at Boomanulla Oval. ACSRA management have opened doors to include profile sporting organisations to utilise its facilities to the wider community to vest in the promotional area in providing opportunities to Indigenous Australians to compete at a higher level in their chosen sport to gain experience in proving their skills. 

 

Current plans of ACSRA management are to build capacity on skills based training encouraging technique to the sporting activities. This will be complimented and developed more with the support of a Sports Development Officer. ACSRA are implementing ongoing encouragement to its organisation staff and members of the community to support networks through workshops to meet the professional status of the sporting activities. Management recognises the need to introduce more skills development and practical sporting skills to improve etiquette and increase prospects for Indigenous sports people of our region. 

 

The aims of the Aboriginal Corporation for Sport and Recreational Activities are:

  • Promote and develop an Aboriginal sporting facility at Boomanulla Oval;

  • Implement and assist sporting organisations to improve sporting attributes;

  • Provide long term planning of an Indigenous sporting facility;

  • Provide long term planning of an Indigenous sporting facility;

  • Provide Aboriginal sporting facilities that are equivalent to that offered to the wider community;

  • Address and response to social and cultural needs of the community;

  • Promote participation in formulation of projects in the community;

  • Provide long term employment for Indigenous community;

  • Itemise and provide important information that is relevant both financially and culturally useful to the Indigenous community;

  • Develop and improve relations with ACT sporting authorities.
